ESU's Project Upward Bound Prepares 19 Students for College Success Issued 1/07 Nineteen high school seniors will graduate from Project Upward Bound at East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, May 1 at 1pm in Room 113 in Stroud Hall. These soon-to-be graduates have successfully participated in four years of Project Upward Bound, a federally funded program that prepares high school students from Monroe, Lehigh, and Northampton counties to become successful college students.
Project Upward Bound provides additional coursework, tutoring and counseling services to cohorts of students from 9th through 12th grades at regional high schools. Selected students spend each Saturday from September through May attending academic classes at ESU and participating in a six-week academic program offered during the summer.
Those graduating are: Christian Arrubla, Shaqueenah Battle-Provott, Christopher Cahill, Paige Cannon, Nicholas Ciafrei, Shanna Cruz, Nicole Feehan, Judith Goda, Irvin Johnson, Reynold Joseph, Jessica Lassiter, Marlene Mendez, James Ohane, Brianna Owens, Elisa Pena, Miguel Rodriguez, Trey Torres, Irving Ubri, and Autumn Wombacker. According to members of the Project Upward Bound staff, some of these graduates will attend the following universities this fall: East Stroudsburg University, Denison, Drexel, DeSales, Kutztown, Hampton, Juniata, Northampton Community College, Penn State, St. Joseph’s, Northwood, and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Angelo Senese, assistant professor of professional and secondary education, will be the keynote speaker at the commencement ceremony.
